What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a system of deep compression therapy on areas of the foot, hand, or ear which correspond to different body organs and systems. The principle is similar to the use of meridian points in acupuncture or acupressure. By stimulating these areas, energy blockages can be freed up allowing and encouraging the body to come back into a state of homeostasis, which is the perfect expression of health that is the normal condition of our bodies.

This therapy is not the same as massage on the foot or hand, but consists of special techniques for accessing the reflexes and stimulating them. Although clients take off their shoes and socks for foot reflexology, there is no need for further disrobing. This process helps to relieve tension and stress, it improves blood supply, and unblocks nerve impulses.

Reflexology is a holistic modality which aims at treating the entire physical body, while also helping to release blockages in the emotional body as well. The goal is not to 'heal' a specific symptom or disease process in isolation, but rather to enable the body to come back into equilibrium and balance so that whole body healing can take place.
